Axios reported on June 28, citing American officials, that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran have agreed to halt reciprocal military attacks. The two sides are scheduled to meet on Tuesday in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to resolve ongoing disputes regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Axios, this agreement was reached just 11 days after a ceasefire was established. The truce had recently been challenged by a resumption of strikes from both sides and threats from Donald Trump to restart the war.

“We decided to freeze all military activities,” a senior US official told Axios.

Another official stated that both sides will cease military actions “for now,” allowing ships to navigate freely through the Strait of Hormuz. The official added that technical negotiations will also continue. Three sources with knowledge of the matter confirmed that the Tuesday meeting will take place in Doha.

The report notes that the primary driver behind the recent flare-up in hostilities was a dispute over how to implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that ended the war, particularly regarding provisions related to the Strait of Hormuz.
