In another setback to the AIADMK, party MLA M.R. Vijayabhaskar, who represented Karur constituency, resigned on Monday (June 29, 2026) as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, following a series of AIADMK resignations months after the 2026 Assembly elections.Accepting his resignation, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar said, “Under Rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Assembly, the Hon’ble Mr. M.R. Vijayabhaskar, Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Karur Assembly Constituency, has personally submitted his handwritten letter of resignation from his office to me.”The Speaker added that the resignation was found to be valid and was accordingly accepted. “As the resignation letter submitted by him is in order and complies with Rule 22 of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Assembly, I hereby accept his resignation,” he said.Mr. Vijayabhaskar’s resignation adds to a string of AIADMK leaders who have quit as members of the Assembly within months after being elected during the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. He is the sixth AIADMK MLA to resign following Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) and former Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai) had resigned their MLA posts.Mr. Vijayabhaskar had narrowly won the Karur seat in the 2026 polls with a margin of 1,821 votes. Published - June 29, 2026 01:02 pm IST
