Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has social commentators buzzing following his performances at the Fifa World Cup.
While Bafana Bafana’s historic FIFA World Cup run ultimately ended in a heartbreaking, last-gasp 1-0 defeat to co-hosts Canada in Los Angeles, the tournament will forever be remembered as the global launching pad for teenage defensive prodigy Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
At just 20 years of age, the South African centre-back went toe-to-toe with some of the most dangerous attackers in international football, producing a series of mature, elite-level performances that have captured the imagination of football fans all over the world.
The former Orlando Pirates starlet has already been linked with a move to Europe not long after leaving South Africa's shores for the Major Soccer League (MLS) in the United States. Premier League side Nottingham Forest are apparently following his progress if the social media rumours are anything to go by.
On Sunday night, the Chicago Fire defender tackled, blocked and cleared any danger in his own box, while his silky passing range also helped Bafana launch a few attacks against the Canadians.
