Green Feathers Hedgehog Box HD Camera pack
Price: £216.95
A hedgehog-obsessed friend of mine has spent years constructing and finessing his own boxes, choosing cameras to put inside them and laying out treats to encourage the animals into his garden (he swears by dry kitten food). Bristol-based Green Feathers, recognising the widespread fondness for these creatures, now offers a shortcut to hosting in the form of this handmade wooden feeding station, coupled with an infrared camera that lets you peek at the comings and goings via an app.
Green Feathers began as a CCTV firm, but pivoted to wildlife when it discovered how its cameras were being used by nature enthusiasts. The camera that comes with this box is designed for small, enclosed spaces; while off-the-shelf infrared models are designed to see anything from 5m to 30m away (and would be far too sensitive to use in a small box), this one uses short-range infrared to generate a crisp image. For consistency, the camera is powered from the mains rather than by battery; I ran the supplied 10m DC extension cable from a garage power point, buried it easily under the earth, and mounted the camera inside the box with four screws.
