A 16-month-old Indian-origin girl from Illinois is on a remarkable journey to become the youngest person ever to visit all 63 national parks in the United States. Accompanied by her parents, Akshay Sharma and Aparajita Rai, little Aarya has already explored 34 national parks and hopes to complete the ambitious challenge within the next two years. The family's adventure began as a way to introduce their daughter to nature and the diverse landscapes across America. However, the idea of setting a record only emerged after a park ranger suggested they pursue the feat when Aarya had already visited 15 national parks. "We thought that we could introduce her to nature and all the national parks, but we never thought that it would result in a record or something like that," Aarya's parents said. "On the suggestion of the ranger, we said, 'Why not? Let's go for it.'" The family documents its travels through its social media page, eternalvoyager1001, sharing experiences from parks across the country. Their goal is not only to achieve a record but also to inspire other parents to explore nature with their children. According to Aarya's mother, Aparajita, the toddler has shown a genuine appreciation for the outdoors. She recalled a memorable moment at Yosemite National Park, where Aarya was mesmerized by a waterfall. "She was in Yosemite National Park and there was this waterfall, and we were sitting in front of the waterfall and I could see her being completely lost, in a good way, like kind of fully soaking it in and enjoying the moment," Aparajita said. The family hopes that exposing Aarya to different natural environments will help her understand the importance of preserving these landscapes for future generations. "We want her to understand different landscapes and just be cognizant of the fact that these are treasures that you need to save for future generations," Aparajita added. Traveling extensively with a toddler comes with its own set of challenges. Aparajita noted that flexibility and careful planning are essential, especially when trips are often organized around long weekends. "If she's the one who is not really enjoying it, it's almost a torture. It requires so much planning so your child has to really enjoy the same things as you do to continue it," she said. The couple, both software professionals, are currently planning a trip to Alaska to visit more national parks as they move closer to their goal. The family has also reached out to Guinness World Records regarding Aarya's potential achievement. However, they acknowledge that the verification process involves extensive rules and documentation. Beyond the possibility of a world record, Aarya's parents hope the journey will leave their daughter with a lasting sense of accomplishment. "Five to ten years from now, when Aarya grows up, she will see what her family has attained together. She will see that nothing is impossible in this world," they said. The United States is home to 63 national parks, renowned for their rich biodiversity and natural beauty. While many adults have completed the challenge of visiting every national park, no child has yet achieved the feat. If successful, Aarya could make history as the youngest person to visit all of them.
