A worker has died and another has been injured after an excavator fell on its side at a Hong Kong construction site.Police said on Monday that they received a report at 9.42am that an industrial accident had occurred on the site on Liberty Avenue in Ho Man Tin.A union chief said both workers were rushed to hospital, with one of them later certified dead. The Labour Department said it was investigating the accident and had ordered the suspension at the site of use of the excavator and lifting operations.Chau Sze-kit, chairman of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union, said the deceased was a 41-year-old handyman, while the operator of the excavator had sustained minor injuries.“The operator told me that the company required him to lift some cubes with the excavator on a muddy slope when it turned onto its side,” he said.“And the deceased happened to be located below the excavator, so when it turned onto its side, he was crushed.”
