Canada have become the first host nation in the history of the men's FIFA World Cup to be forced to play a tournament match outside of its own borders.

This is because of their final standing in Group B.

Canada needed a win or a draw against Switzerland in their final group stage match on Wednesday to finish first in the group.

Unfortunately, they suffered a 2-1 loss, which dropped them to second place.

If Canada had secured the top spot in Group B, the tournament bracket would have kept them at home in Vancouver for a round of 32 match at BC Place.
