Sustained vigilance and intensified drives by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Tiruchi Division under “Operation Narcos” carried out against narcotics trafficking and illegal transportation of contraband through the railway network has resulted in the seizure of 76.7 kg of ganja so far this year. The value of the contraband seized in 14 incidents in the division this year was ₹38.35 lakh. A total of 1,129 liquor bottles worth ₹5.28 lakh were seized in 59 cases. The seizures prevented illegal substances from being transported through the railway network reflecting the RPF Tiruchi Division’s strong commitment to combat organised crime. The RPF detected eight cases of theft of passenger belongings from January 1 to June 25 and recovered stolen property worth ₹4.60 lakh and restored them to their owners. As part of its continuous drive against offences such as trespassing, stone throwing, causing public nuisance and touting, the RPF personnel apprehended 4,696 offenders for various railway-related offences. Fines totalling ₹13.13 lakh were imposed reinforcing strict compliance with railway regulations and enhancing overall passenger safety.The personnel maintained strict vigil against theft and unlawful possession of railway property and registered 28 cases under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act till now this year leading to the recovery of railway property worth ₹1.02 lakh.Under “Operation Amanat”, the RPF personnel recovered unattended luggage, valuables, electronic gadgets, cash and important documents in 139 cases. Articles worth ₹89.61 lakh were traced and handed over to the rightful owners after due verification. Under “Operation Mahila Suraksha”, dedicated RPF teams provided daily escorts on 14 important passenger trains offering assistance, guidance, and enhanced security to women passengers throughout their journey, a press release from the Tiruchi Division said on Sunday.
