KYIV — Ukraine launched another wave of long-range drone attacks on Russia overnight, striking two oil refineries and triggering a major fire at one facility in the country's south, Ukrainian and Russian officials said Sunday.Russian authorities said debris from intercepted Ukrainian drones ignited a blaze at the Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, killing one person and injuring another. Separately, one person was killed and another wounded in Russia's Belgorod border region during additional Ukrainian drone strikes.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces targeted the Slavyansk refinery and said a second refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl region was also hit."Tonight, our 'long-range sanctions' reached two oil refineries in Russia," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. "Each strike reduces the resources fueling the Russian war machine and brings another step toward peace."The Slavyansk refinery is one of southern Russia's largest oil-processing facilities, with an annual capacity of nearly 4 million tons of crude oil. It supplies petroleum products, including fuel oil, naphtha, and marine fuel, for export through Russia's Black Sea ports.Russian authorities did not immediately confirm damage to the Yaroslavl refinery, although regional Governor Mikhail Evraev said some roads had been temporarily closed because of what he described as an enemy drone attack. Yaroslavl Airport and several other airports in southern and western Russia also briefly suspended operations overnight.Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted 213 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian territory, occupied Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes against Russian military and energy infrastructure in recent months in an effort to disrupt fuel supplies, reduce revenues supporting Moscow's war effort, and increase pressure on the Kremlin to negotiate.Meanwhile, Russia launched its own overnight assault on Ukraine, firing 142 long-range drones and eight missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. It said Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 125 drones and seven missiles.
