The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs valued at more than ₦12.3 billion in a series of nationwide operations, including the seizure of nearly five tonnes of Canadian Loud at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
The agency disclosed the seizures in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, published on its website, the largest recovery involved a 40-foot container loaded with 195 sacks of Canadian Loud, a high-grade strain of cannabis, weighing 4,959 kilograms and estimated to have a street value of ₦12.397 billion.
The NDLEA Spokesman said operatives from two of its Special Operations Units monitored the shipment for more than four weeks before it was intercepted during a joint examination involving officers of the agency's Apapa Strategic Command, the Nigeria Customs Service, other security agencies and port stakeholders.
