Harry Kane scored his 11th goal at a World Cup to rubber-stamp England's 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday, breaking Gary Lineker's record which stood for 36 years11:18, 28 Jun 2026Updated 11:18, 28 Jun 2026Gary Lineker jokingly told Micah Richards to 'shut the f*** up' after Harry Kane broke his England record. Kane's header in the 67th minute of Saturday's laboured 2-0 win against Panama in New Jersey was his 11th goal at a World Cup, making him England's top scorer at the tournament.‌The Bayern Munich striker eclipsed Lineker's record of 10 which has stood since the 1990 edition. It was Kane's third of the tournament to help England top Group L and book a round-of-32 tie against DR Congo on Wednesday.‌Lineker, 65, was watching the match alongside Richards for his Netflix show, The Rest is Football. "Harry, Harry I absolutely love you," Richards, appearing via video link from the UK, hailed after the goal. "Gary is no more, he's not relevant any more, he's irrelevant."‌"Shut the f*** up, will you?" Lineker retorted. The England legend then hit the off button on his remote to remove Richards from the show.Get the latest World Cup 2026 news in your inbox with our Make Football Great Again newsletterLineker quickly rowed back, though, allowing Richards to return. "I'll let you back because it's really late there," he explained.‌Kane sent Lineker a message after breaking the record, cheekily apologising. "Sorry Gary, I'm one ahead of you now," he noted."I'm sure he'll send some congratulations and I've said before one of England's greatest strikers, especially in World Cups. To go ahead of him now is a proud moment for myself and I'm sure he'll be happy for me."Is Harry Kane England's best ever striker? Forty years is a long time I am kind of bored of it. I couldn't be more thrilled that it's Harry Kane."Lineker memorably scored six goals at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and bagged four more in Italy four years later.
