By Steve OkoThe Abia State Government has intensified efforts to institutionalise transparency and eliminate corruption in the public service with the inauguration of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Committee for the Abia State Strategy on Accountability, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (ABSIAS).

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, funded by the European Union.

The committee is tasked with monitoring the implementation of the state’s anti-corruption strategy, tracking compliance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), validating data and providing evidence-based reports to guide government decisions.

Inaugurating the committee in Umuahia, the Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Tpl. Ukeje Uche Ukpabi, said the initiative underscored the government’s commitment to building a public service anchored on transparency, integrity and accountability.

He described the committee as the “watchmen” of the anti-corruption strategy, stressing that no policy could succeed without effective implementation and oversight.
