SportFootballManchester City transfer newsEngland midfielder Elliot Anderson is close to sealing a £116million transfer to Manchester City from Nottingham Forest07:30, 28 Jun 2026Updated 07:36, 28 Jun 2026England boss Thomas Tuchel has paid tribute to Elliot Anderson - while predicting that his big-money transfer to Manchester City will be formalised before the World Cup Round of 32 clash with DR Congo.City and Nottingham Forest have already formally agreed a transfer but it's understood the 23-year-old still needs to undergo his medical tests. While he was largely expected to undergo a medical in New York this weekend, sources close to the England camp insist those checks have not taken place yet. They are now set to take place in Kansas City, where England's training base is situated.Tuchel said when asked if he wants the deal sorted before the Three Lions head to Atlanta: "I think there's a very high chance the 'thing' is sorted before the round of 32.Get the latest World Cup news straight to your inbox by signing up to our Make Football Great Again newsletter now!"It's very impressive, I have to say, the way he plays and the way he trains, he carries himself. He's still quite young and quite new to our national team and he just plays like he owns the place."He's always there, I think he grew into the tournament after a bit of a difficult start against Croatia but he gets better and better. It's good to have him, he gave green light, medical gave green light and he's without any injury concern about the moment."Anderson impressed on Saturday as England ran out 2-0 winners over Panama in New Jersey to top Group L. He is now set to become City's club-record signing and the second-most expensive player in British history after Liverpool's £125m capture of Alexander Isak.Meanwhile, Tuchel is confident his players have what it take to go deep in the tournament on the back of impressive seasons at club level. He added: “These players are used to these moments, they play Champions League and Europa League to the end.“They know what it takes. We will step up. The bigger the games get, the bigger we will get. There is no problem growing into a tournament like this.“We have strong belief and trust in each other. It is important we keep believing in what we can influence and what we can improve. The most important thing is not to be afraid and be brave.”Article continues belowJoin our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
