Ukraine's National Antarctic Scientific Center (NASC) and the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences have signed an agreement to conduct joint scientific research in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The NASC announced the agreement on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
The document, signed in Warsaw, provides for joint geophysical research in 2026–2027 at Poland's Stanisław Siedlecki Polar station in Hornsund, Svalbard (Arctic), and at Ukraine's Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica.
The agreement aims to establish two synchronized research laboratories in the Earth's two polar regions.
"For Ukraine, this is a 'window' into the Arctic, where we do not have our own research station. We will now be able to participate in Arctic research, gain access to the infrastructure and data of the Polish polar station, exchange experience and technologies, and much more," the NASC said.
