International news
The United States launched air strikes on Iranian military sites after Washington accused Tehran of carrying out a drone attack on a commercial cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh doubts over a ceasefire agreement signed earlier this month.
The strikes came hours after the Singapore-registered Ever Lovely was hit while sailing through the strategic waterway. The vessel suffered damage to its bridge but continued its voyage. No injuries were reported among the crew. British maritime authorities and the ship's operator confirmed there were no casualties.
US Central Command said American aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites together with coastal radar facilities in what it described as a response to an attack on international shipping.
