Thoothukudi cyber crime police arrested two persons from Erode district and brought them here on Friday for allegedly defrauding a local resident of ₹24.64 lakh by promising high profits through international currency trading.According to police, the accused have been identified as K. Vivek Raja, 33 from Avinashi and J. Paresh Kumar, 30 from Gobichettipalayam. The accused befriended the victim through social media and persuaded him to invest in international currency tradition through a website called ‘XS Markets.’ claiming it would generate substantial returns. Believing their claims, the victim transferred a total of ₹24,64,800 to various bank accounts.After realising that he had been cheated, the victim lodged a complaint with cyber crime police, who registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, police arrested Vivek Raja and Paresh Kumar and recovered ₹3 lakh from the accused and returned the amount to the victim. Further investigations are underway.
