The city police arrested 59 persons allegedly involved in 48 property offences in May 2026 and recovered property worth ₹31 lakh.Addressing a press conference as part of the monthly property recovery mela at the police conference hall on Saturday (June 27, 2026), Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi stated that during May 2026, a total of 68 cases of property offences were reported in the city. Special teams used technical methods and investigated the cases from all angles, successfully detecting 48 cases. The police arrested 59 offenders under various charges, and property worth ₹31.14 lakh was recovered. The recoveries included 1,029.66 grams of gold, 1,015 grams of silver, and ₹1.72 lakh in cash.The CP stated that, apart from property, as many as 503 missing mobile phones worth ₹74.45 lakh were also recovered. With this, the total value of the property recovered was ₹1.06 crore.He mentioned that the 48 detected cases included one case of murder for gain, two cases of robbery, one case of daytime house burglary, one case of nighttime house burglary, seven cases of snatching, 10 cases of motorcycle theft, one case of van theft, and 25 cases of ordinary theft.Mr. Bagchi further stated that as part of preventive measures, in May 2026, approximately 367 CC cameras were installed in various locations throughout the city, and as many as 367 crime awareness meetings were conducted. He also mentioned that special patrols were carried out by crime teams during both day and night in crime-prone areas. Drone surveillance is ongoing in isolated areas to monitor criminals and illegal activities, he added.During the programme, the CP and senior police officers handed over the recovered property to its rightful owners.
