The LV Prasad Eye Institute’s (LVPEI) GMR Varalakshmi Campus has initiated a vision screening programme across schools in the city, aiming to correct vision issues among children. As part of the programme, trained eye care professionals screened school children for common eye disorders such as refractive errors, myopia (short-sightedness), amblyopia (lazy eye), squint, and other ocular conditions. Children identified with vision issues were referred for comprehensive eye examinations, including cycloplegic refraction based on requirement. Those requiring spectacles received appropriate prescriptions for glasses.Consultant Optometrist at GMR Varalakshmi campus, G. Abhishek said that early detection and correction of refractive errors enables children to better engage in the class, enabling better learning outcomes. Children identified with eye conditions other than refractive errors were referred to ophthalmologists for further evaluation and management.Alongside the school vision screening, the LVPEI team conducted awareness sessions for teachers and parents, highlighting simple yet effective measures to protect children’s vision. These measures include encouraging outdoor activities, reducing unnecessary recreational screen time, and ensuring timely comprehensive eye examinations whenever a child has trouble seeing.” Published - June 27, 2026 07:48 pm IST
