Amy Steadman, 64, her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, and four grandchildren, Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and Gavin and Gracelynn, both 10, were found dead in their home in Mechanicville on Tuesday15:08, 27 Jun 2026Updated 15:08, 27 Jun 2026A devastated dad has spoken of the awful moment when his four children were found dead in their home alongside their mother and grandmother in a suspected poisoning.‌The six bodies were found inside their apartment on Tuesday in the small town of Mechanicville in New York State. They were identified as Amy Steadman, 64, her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, and four grandchildren, Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and Gavin and Gracelynn, both 10.‌The horrific discovery was made by police officers who responded to a welfare check, Mechanicville Police Department Chief William Rabbitt said. He said authorities recovered evidence indicating “intentional poisoning” and added that an autopsy had found that one of the children suffered fatal blunt-force injuries.‌The chief revealed that a note found at the crime scene, along with circumstantial evidence, “strongly suggested” that Amy Steadman was involved. Now the children's father, Brady Harmon, has spoken for the first time, revealing how he was involved in a custody battle with Sarah Myers and that the children had been set to spend the summer with him in Utah.‌Brady explained how he and Myers married in 2015 but separated four years later, the last time he had seen his children. He spoke to his children for the last time on June 7, he said, after Myers messaged him on June 10 that they were sick."She messaged me, 'Hey, the kids are sick, we'll talk to you on the 11th,'" he told the US Sun. On the same day his lawyer sent Myers paperwork about an upcoming custody hearing on the 29th.‌“So, I don't know if that pushed them over the edge because like, ‘Oh my gosh, he actually has a lawyer that's going to do his job. And we don't know a way out of this, so let's do the next best thing. He'll never have access to these kids…’ and then do what they did,” he speculated.Brady said he called police multiple times to ask for welfare checks after learning the children were sick. He told how he would frequently speak to children on FaceTime and tried to get them excited about the coming visit to Utah.‌He told the New York Post his children were “happy little kids,” adding: “Harper and Grace would show me their drawings, Hudson would show me their cat and Gavin would show me something he built.”Brady said he discovered his kids were gone just two days before Father's Day. “No mother, no sane mother, parent or anything would sit there and allow that to happen,” he told local ABC affiliate News 10.“Who could do that to a child, especially your own child or grandchild? It is so sickening to think that they did that.”‌Steadman's ex-husband, John Bauman, told Spectrum News that she loved the kids, as did her daughter. He said he did not believe they had anything to do with their deaths. In 2022 Steadman shared a GoFundMe on her Facebook profile to raise money for her daughter to “help get a domestic violence lawyer”. Brady denied the accusations in his interview with the US Sun, saying Myers was the “culprit” rather than a “victim”.Article continues belowHe also shared an allegation that she stabbed him in the face with a medicine dropper during a fight in 2019, adding that his ex-wife was keeping the kids away from him as a way of keeping “control”.Police have assured residents that there is no further threat to the public, but with few details released about how the tragedy unfolded the small community has been deeply shaken by the deaths.
