Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has on Saturday disbursed ₹300 crore to the beneficiaries as part of the Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) programme under the Veligonda Irrigation Project in the Prakasam district.Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the NDA government in the State was spending ₹900 crore as part of the R&R for those who got displaced because of the project and ₹3,000 crore for the construction of the project while the Government of India had given ₹980 crore. “There is a painful story behind 7,222 who got displaced due to the project and lost lands in the native villages. The previous YSRCP government had only rehabilitated 96 people and forged false cases on those who requested compensation and rehabilitation,’’ Naidu said. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government had completed most of the project works between 2014-19 when it was in power and previous government `hurriedly’ announced dedication of the project without undertaking any works to complete the project and R&R programme, Naidu added, according to a release.Published on June 27, 2026
