Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson can be seen in the same collarless beige jackets the band wore.12:05, 27 Jun 2026It was the biggest Beatles concert, with screaming so loud they famously couldn’t hear themselves playing their instruments. Now the actors playing the fab four in Sam Mendes’ film project have got on stage to recreate the gig at Shea Stadium in New York City in 1965.‌For the remake of the famous show, movie-makers have not returned to America but instead shot the scenes in Montjuic baseball stadium in Barcelona in Spain with the original US venue being demolished in 2009.‌Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson can be seen in the collarless beige jackets the band wore. Mescal as McCartney has the trademark 1961 Hofner bass whilst Dickinson as Lennon is playing a black Rickenbacker 325. Keoghan is of course on drums as Ringo.‌All of the new fab four actors look a bit sweaty in their outfits, but that matches up well with the real thing as John, Paul, George and Ringo tended to get hot up on stage. The four-film cinematic event is expected to show some of the songs being played by the band which included Twist and Shout, I Feel Fine, Can’t Buy Me love and A Hard Day’s Night.Back in 1965 the show was the Beatles’ first stadium gig, with 55,600 fans in the baseball arena. They were introduced by Ed Sullivan who was filming the gig for a TV show and told fans: "Now, ladies and gentlemen, honoured by their country, decorated by their Queen, loved here in America, here are The Beatles!”‌But once they plugged in and began to play, the screams drowned out the music. In the Beatles Anthology, Ringo said: "What I remember most about the concert was that we were so far away from the audience. ... And screaming had become the thing to do. ... Everybody screamed. If you look at the footage, you can see how we reacted to the place. It was very big and very strange."‌The band returned to play the stadium again in 1966 and after that US tour they decided they would take a break from touring and would go back into the studio. They would never go on the road again and split in 1970.For the film, Mescal has previously confirmed that he has been studying music, whilst Ringo has given notes to Mendes about the project.Mescal told GQ Magazine: "I’ve learned so much. It’s really inspired a love. I’ve always loved music, but getting to play one of the great songwriters and great frontmen has really lit a fire in terms of personally writing music and engaging and hearing music in a different way."‌He went on to reveal he's met McCartney twice and he was impressed by the music legend, saying: "He’s the most brilliant man. I feel emotionally attached to him. He received me with great kindness and warmth.”‌In May, McCartney released a video of Mescal interviewing him about his new album, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane. Speaking about his relationship with the Beatles and the nostalgic lyrics on the new album, McCartney said: “Looking back on your life, I ran into this guy called John Lennon, he was kinda fighting life. He had a lot of trouble, his dad had left home, his mum had got run over, he had a lot of trouble there. So he was putting up a shield and he was very witty, and when it came to songwriting that relationship stayed there."On this record, I might even refer to him in my mind, you know, as if we're still writing together. I'll write something and go, 'What's that? Is that any good?’"Mescal asked: "And you're talking to him?" And McCartney replied: "Kind of, you know, sometimes I get away with it. And sometimes you say, 'No, it's s***!’ You know, his spirit is still in me, and I'm very glad of that. And George[Harrison] too.”Article continues below* The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, is scheduled to be released in April 2028.Like this story?
