It is not yet known how badly he was injured by the animal. The incident is still being investigated and further details are yet to be released.Yellowstone National Park is home to an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 bison divided into two main herds - the Northern herd and the Central herd. The population was saved from the brink of extinction, growing from just two dozen individuals that took refuge in the park in the late 1800s.The wildlife in Yellowstone, including bison, can be dangerous and become aggressive if people "do not respect their space", park officials warned."Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal," the park said. "They are unpredictable, can run three times faster than humans and will defend their space when threatened."Two people were gored by bison in separate incidents in Yellowstone last year after approaching the animals too closely, the park said. There were also two reported incidents of a person injured by a bison in 2024 and one in 2023.Article continues belowYellowstone National Park is also home to elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes - all of which visitors are advised to stay a minimum of 25 yards (22 metres) away from at all times.The park also says people should stay at least 100 yards (91 metres) away from bears, wolves and cougars."If wildlife approach you, move away to maintain the required distance," the park said.
