Over 3,000 power outages were recorded, primarily affecting central regions of the country, including the capital, Wellington. The national weather forecaster, MetService, confirmed that the severe weather was beginning to clear. Emergency authorities in Wellington warned residents about road debris, surface flooding, and a continued risk of landslides. The adverse weather conditions led to the cancellation of 200 flights in and out of Wellington on Friday, with Lower Hutt also reporting flooded roads and two landslides.
