Sir, – It is interesting to observe a certain irony in a front-page headline of your newspaper, “Coalition TDs seek extra scrutiny of abortion Bill”, (June 25th). The stated preference of the Sinn Féin spokesperson quoted in the article for the Bill to be “passed as soon as is possible” reflects precisely the same undue haste and disdain for much needed reflection as Sinn Féin and supporters of the Bill wish to subject expectant mothers to – at potentially one of life’s moments when such haste is dangerous and such reflection is vital. The three-day day period of reflection for a woman who may be conflicted during pregnancy is as vital as great carefulness is by legislators when dealing with matters of life and death. – Yours, etc,NEIL Ó CEARMADA,Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W
