The investigation into the murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal has pointed to an alleged conflict between a secret relationship and a marriage arranged by families, with police claiming that accused Siya Goyal's closeness to co-accused Chetan Chaudhary was known to some members of her family, as per a TOI report.According to investigators, the Goyal family became aware of Siya's relationship with Chaudhary during a community cricket match in January. Police alleged that despite knowing about the relationship, the family proceeded with her engagement to Ketan Agarwal because of the financial difference between the two families.Investigators believe the alleged motive behind the murder was rooted in the forced marriage and the secret relationship.A police officer said preliminary findings suggest Siya's brother, Sahil Goyal, knew about her relationship with Chaudhary. Police said they are verifying whether he had informed other family members.Police claim accused discussed murder planAccording to police, Siya Goyal told investigators during custodial interrogation that she did not like her fiancé because he wore a hair patch. Police alleged that she said ending the marriage would have upset her family and that planning Agarwal's murder appeared easier than calling off the wedding.Ketan Agarwal's father rejected the claim, saying a hair patch could never justify killing someone. He said that if Siya had objected to it, she should have refused the marriage instead of allegedly conspiring to commit murder.Investigators also claimed that Goyal and Chaudhary remained in regular contact for nearly six months before the incident, exchanging 2,004 calls that totalled 238 hours of conversation.Police alleged that the two met at a cafe on the day of the incident to finalise their plan and identify the location at Lohagad Fort where Agarwal would allegedly be pushed into the gorge.Deleted chats sent for forensic examinationPolice said both accused allegedly deleted phone conversations before and after the June 18 incident at Lohagad Fort. The mobile phones have been sent to a forensic laboratory to recover deleted chat logs, investigators said.Police further alleged that Chaudhary initially denied being present near the cliff, but claimed his account changed during questioning.According to investigators, Goyal allegedly gave a pre-decided signal by sitting down, after which Chaudhary allegedly approached from behind and pushed Agarwal into the gorge.Brother questioned for nearly 10 hoursPune Rural Police questioned Siya Goyal's brother, Sahil Goyal, for nearly 10 hours on Friday as part of the investigation.Police said the questioning focused on his knowledge of his sister's relationship with Chaudhary. An official said Sahil knew Chaudhary and was questioned to verify certain aspects of the investigation before being allowed to leave.Deputy Superintendent of Police Gajanan Tonpe of the Lonavala division said investigators had established the alleged roles of both accused in the case. He added that more relatives and friends would also be summoned for questioning as the investigation continues.Siya's mother says daughter did not want to visit LohagadMeanwhile, Siya Goyal's mother claimed that her daughter was reluctant to visit Lohagad Fort on June 18.According to her, Ketan Agarwal and his mother persuaded Siya to accompany them. She alleged that during a video call on the evening of June 17, Agarwal requested Siya to join the trip, following which his mother also urged her to come.Siya's mother claimed her daughter declined initially because she did not want to go trekking and wanted to rest ahead of a function scheduled for the following day.(With inputs from TOI)
