'No job too big, no job too small' is normally the slogan of choice for a man with a van.

But one driver in Kent found himself on the biggest job of his life after giving an impromptu lift to an armed police officer in hot pursuit of a suspect.

Footage released by Kent Police that has been viewed more than 3million times online shows gun-toting officers on the trail of a suspect after a serious assault was reported in Margate shortly before 1pm on June 16.

As the suspect makes a break for it and runs down a residential street - unfazed by the threat of a firearm - the officers in heavy tactical gear struggle to keep up.

One breathless officer at the rear of the pack then gets a lucky break as the everyday hero pulls up alongside him in a black van on a roundabout at the head of Tivoli Road in the south of the town.
