Donald Trump is accusing Iran of 'foolishly' breaking its ceasefire agreement with the US after a recent drone attack targeting cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz. 'The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz,' the President posted on Friday afternoon. 'One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive cargo carrying ship. Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way.'Trump continued saying that US forces 'knocked down three other drones' in the bombardment. 'This is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,' the Republican added.Vice President JD Vance traveled to Switzerland last weekend to negotiate with Iran and mediators from Pakistan and Qatar. The memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran in Switzerland last week stipulates that vessels must be free to transit the Strait of Hormuz unabated.The Islamic Republic's fresh strikes on ships in the strait are a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement signed between the US and Iran. Trump did not name the vessels that were targeted. Iran's strike comes at a tenuous time for the two warring nations. The MOU signed between the Islamic Republic and the US mandated that, once signed, the two countries would hold off on hostilities as they hash out specifics for a lasting peace deal during a 60-day ceasefire, which started after the memorandum was penned last week by Trump in France. The deal allows Iran to begin exporting its oil because the US agreed to end its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. Now that the fragile memorandum has been violated, it is unclear what the US response will be. Trump said last week that if Iran breaks the agreement, he would resume attacks on the country. 'It's a memorandum of understanding. And if I don't like it, we'll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on ⁠their head,' Trump said last week at the Group of Seven summit in France.Iran has broken multiple ceasefire agreements with the US since the two countries began discussing a diplomatic resolution for the war. Since the agreement was signed, gas prices, which for a time shot up close to 50 percent because of the war, have come tumbling down. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.90, according to AAA. Last month, the same gallon of gas cost $4.49. The price was just under $3 per gallon before the war began in late February.
