Dindigul Collector Durgamoorthi conducted a meeting with mango farmers, traders and pulp factory owners, regarding mango procurement at the District Collectorate.The Collector said the main objective was to ensure fair price for mangoes, facilitate procurement of mangoes and prevent decline in mango prices.According to a statement, in Dindigul district, mangoes are cultivated over an area of ​​15,890 hectares, yielding a production of 1,15,088 metric tonnes. Totapuri or Bangalora variety was suitable for processing which accounted for 5,872 hectares of cultivation and a production of 42,694 metric tonnes. The meeting was organised to ensure that farmers receive a fair price.Farmers raised several queries at the meeting regarding adherence to the mandated 15% mango pulp content in mango-based products, distribution of value-added mango products to students and provision for subsidies.Collector Durgamoorthi said necessary measures would be taken to ensure fair price and procurement from the farmers, benefiting both mango growers and the traders.
