When possible, I think it’s best to buy off-season. At first, it hurts. (The thought of wearing a cashmere sweater come July makes my skin crawl.) But once you’re a few seasons in, it’s like a little dance of deals: Buy half-off (more more) sweaters in June, under-$10 tanks in October, extra-discounted bikinis in February. Rather than scrambling to fill your closet with a new, full-price piece each season, you’ll have a few brand-new pieces you’ve been eagerly waiting to break out.
One of the most impressive off-season sales is happening at Bloomingdale’s right now, specifically on the department store’s in-house line of cashmere, C by Bloomingdale’s. Earlier this year, writer Brenley Goertzen gave the cashmere the top spot in our guide to women’s sweaters and described it as “not too thick but not too flimsy” cashmere that’s “substantial yet breathable enough for year-round wear.” The whole line is broadly discounted by at least 50 percent right now. While the sweaters often go on sale, they usually still cost $100 or more, so these discounts are especially good.
Stock is all over the place, so I generally tried to include sweaters that are available in every size among all the colorways. If you don’t see your size in, say, black, try looking at the other available colors. But be forewarned: The sweaters are going quickly, so it’s best not to wait if you see one you like.
