June 26 (UPI) -- The New York Mets fired manager Carlos Mendoza after a 34-47 start to their 2026 MLB campaign, the National League East franchise announced Friday.
Vice president of player development Andy Green will serve as the Mets' interim manager.
Mendoza led the Mets to a 206-199 record over the last three seasons. The Mets advanced to the National League Championship Series in his first season, but failed to make the playoffs in 2025. The Mets' struggles under Mendoza occurred despite registering of the highest payrolls in baseball.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Carlos Mendoza for his leadership and unwavering commitment," Mets owner Steve Cohen said in a statement. "He represented this organization with integrity and dedication throughout, and I wish him and his family all the best.
