In an initiative to give a first-hand experience on science subjects for the students in government school, the Round Table members built them state-of-the-art laboratories at ₹28 lakh and gifted them to the school authorities.The Madurai City Round Table 99 chairman Rajarathinam Ilankovan said on Friday that under the Freedom Through Education (FTE) programme, two laboratory block at Pandiya Konar Government Higher Secondary School, Mullikulam, was dedicated to the school.The project, he said, was jointly undertaken by Madurai City Round Table 99, Madurai City Ladies Circle 60 and Rajapalayam Sivakasi Round Table 158.He said that the project would provide laboratory facilities and create better learning opportunities for Physics and Chemistry students on a par with those in private educational institutions.The school authorities said that about 450 students would benefit from the new facility, which had been completed at a cost of ₹28 lakh. Thanking the philanthropists and the Round Table members for the gift, the teachers said that the students could have a live-demonstration on the subjects. Moreover, for public examinations, they need not travel to other locations.The inauguration was graced by industrialist KPS Kannan along with Round Table Area Chairman Renin.
