Back in April, at the start of the postseason, during a long-ranging conversation about his Olympic snub and his statement season and everything in between, it was brought up to Stars power forward Jason Robertson that he’d be an extremely attractive trade option for many teams around the league, should his contract situation in Dallas come to that.Robertson demurred, saying all that stuff is between the team and his agent, and that he was focused on trying to win the Stanley Cup. It was pointed out that Chicago surely would be one of those suitors, and he was asked if he could picture himself on Connor Bedard’s wing.Robertson laughed loudly.“We’re just focused on winning it here right now,” he said. “I can’t be thinking about things like that.”Well, he can now.Robertson is at the center of the hockey world right now, as Dallas general manager Jim Nill shops one of his best players while still trying to work out a contract extension for the 26-year-old restricted free agent. Robertson had 45 goals and 96 points last season — his third 40-goal season in just six years. He fits Chicago’s biggest need, he’s young enough to fit the team’s timeline and he can fit under the Blackhawks’ salary cap.Does he, however, want to come to Chicago? Robertson turned down a monster contract offer by the Seattle Kraken and is reportedly unwilling to go to St. Louis, either. If Robertson wants to win immediately, the Blackhawks could be in the same boat, but Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson is trying. Here’s what we know, and what we believe:
Is Stars forward Jason Robertson a real possibility for the Blackhawks?
Dallas GM Jim Nill is trying to work out an extension for the 26-year-old forward, but he's also shopping him around.
