A. Sakthivel, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council and who is part of the Indian business delegation accompanying Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, in his visit to London for the UK–India Week 2026, interacted with Peter Kyle, the UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade.A press release said Mr. Sakthivel exchanged views with Mr. Kyle on enhancing bilateral trade, investment, innovation and industrial collaboration and highlighted the opportunities that the India–UK CETA offers to India’s apparel sector by improving market access, enhancing competitiveness, and creating new avenues for export growth.The agreement will significantly boost India’s apparel exports to the UK, strengthen bilateral trade relations, and contribute meaningfully towards India’s vision of achieving $ 100 billion in apparel exports by 2030, Mr. Sakthivel reiterated.The UK and India are preparing to implement the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Double Contribution Convention (DCC) from July 15.Mr. Sakthivel added that the Minister receiving the “Exceptional Leadership in Elevating UK–India Ties” award was a recognition for his contribution to strengthening bilateral economic and strategic relations between the two countries.
