Red Bull is set to lose one of it's technical team's senior leaders, as yet another one of Max Verstappen's most trusted allies moves onto different pastures15:18, 26 Jun 2026Red Bull appear poised to lose their long-standing chief engineer Paul Monaghan. The 58-year-old has dedicated the past two decades of his life to overseeing Red Bull's engineering divisions. However, he is now expected to depart for a fresh opportunity elsewhere on the grid. According to RacingNews365, Monaghan has attracted multiple approaches from teams eager to capitalise on his extensive experience and know-how.He is believed to have entertained an offer from Aston Martin, where he could have re-joined long-standing colleague Adrian Newey, but seemingly opted instead for a proposal from Formula 1's newest entrant, Cadillac.Neither Red Bull nor Cadillac wished to provide comment, though it is understood that, while Monaghan's departure has not yet been formally initiated, he has notified Red Bull of his intention to leave. A spell of gardening leave will need to be observed and therefore he is unlikely to commence his new position with Cadillac until next season at the earliest. He remains in his role at Red Bull for now, but, upon his exit, Monaghan will undoubtedly be sorely missed given he represents one of the handful of long-standing senior figures still present from the team's early days in the sport.Red Bull initially joined F1 in 2005 following their acquisition of the Jaguar outfit and Monaghan was brought in from Jordan Grand Prix later that same year.In his capacity as chief engineer, he has presided over the design and evolution of eight championship-winning machines: eight drivers' and six constructors' title triumphs.Nicknamed 'Pedals' within the team, he remains an immensely well-liked character at Milton Keynes as well as a crucial one due to his expertise and track record. And his exit will be deeply felt, particularly given numerous other senior personnel have already moved on in recent years. Newey agreed to switch to Aston Martin in 2024 while Horner was dismissed last year.Rob Marshall, another of Red Bull's former senior engineers, left for McLaren where he was subsequently joined by Will Courtenay, who served as head of race strategy. Max Verstappen's race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, will also join McLaren in 2028.Article continues belowAs Monaghan adds his name to that roster, it represents one fewer recognisable face for Verstappen to encounter when he surveys the Red Bull garage. The sheer volume of personnel leaving, having played their part in so much of Red Bull's achievements, creates a feeling of a changing of the guard at the outfit, and team principal Laurent Mekies will be hoping that Verstappen doesn't wind up forming part of that exodus. The Dutchman is contracted until 2028 but also possesses a clause to depart which he can trigger between August and October this year. While he has indicated a wish to finish his career with Red Bull, he has also not yet pledged his future to the team beyond this season and is understood to have pointedly refused to do so during a recent discussion with Red Bull's Austrian leadership.
