In response to the joint statement issued by the U.S. Secretary of State and the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic described the GCC statement as “interventionist, irresponsible, and provocative.”

During a meeting of GCC foreign ministers in Bahrain, attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Gulf Arab nations reaffirmed the necessity of curbing threats attributed to the Islamic Republic. The meeting’s final communiqué stated that achieving lasting peace and stability in the region is impossible without addressing Tehran’s ballistic missile program, drones, and support for proxy groups.

The ministry announced that the provisions of the fifth clause of the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington would serve as the basis for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic also described the U.S. claim regarding its commitment to the security of GCC member states as “rhetoric and a distortion of reality,” urging the council’s member nations to reconsider their approach toward regional security. The statement further emphasized achieving regional security without the interference of foreign powers.
