Digwa, who was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years, falsely claimed Mr Nowak had racially abused him and pulled off his turban, while feigning ignorance of Mr Nowak's injuries. The footage appears to corroborate claims that Digwa was not handcuffed, while the dying Mr Nowak was, which previously sparked public unrest. Hampshire Constabulary's temporary deputy chief constable apologised for the officers' actions, stating they were 'lied to' and unaware of Mr Nowak's injury. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating Hampshire Police's response, and a jury inquest next year will examine if any police actions contributed to Mr Nowak's death.
