Burtwistle attempted to have a man removed from England's 0-0 draw with Ghana at Boston Stadium on Tuesday, accusing him of making "incredibly racist comments" towards the Ghanaian national team. Despite Burtwistle reporting the incident and having five witnesses, stewards initially stated they could not kick the man out, and he was ultimately not removed from the game. Burtwistle expressed frustration with the American stewards, who reportedly told him the man would only be ejected if he made another racist comment, a policy he deemed "ridiculous". Fifa has been contacted for comment regarding the incident, which Burtwistle documented in a YouTube video and shared screenshots of the online abuse on Instagram.
