It’s the final day of Prime Day, folks. You now have under 24 hours to take advantage of one or more of the many deals Amazon has across the site. The giant online retailers is chockful of discounts on TVs, PC parts, kitchen appliances, and more. One that we came across that warrants a look is on the Western Digital portable SSD.

This portable solid state drive is available in capacities including 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB, however, the only one that’s part of a Prime Day deal is the 1TB. That one has a list price of $313, but is currently marked down by 41%. That brings the price down to just $185.

Now this deal comes with a few asterisks on it that are worth covering. Since about January of this year, prices for storage has gone shooting up, whether that’s for SD cards, internal drives, or portable SSDs such as this. In some cases, prices have gone up three or four times their value from 2025. This is mostly due to the growing demands of the AI infrastructure and the burden is falling onto the consumer.

So looking at this SSD from Western Digital, while its now lower than where it had been the last six months, it’s still much higher than it’s 2025 average price which fell under $100. These unfortunate circumstances make now a pretty terrible time to be shopping for more storage. The problem though is that people still need storage. At the very least Prime Day has brought the price slightly lower than where it had been since this storage crisis. Even though this SSD is much higher than it had been last year, this week might still be the lowest you’ll be able to grab it for awhile.
