The UK might've sizzled on its hottest June day on record yesterday, with temperatures rising above 36C, but putting off housework due to the heat can't go on forever.Luckily, UK cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie (@lynsey_queenofclean) has explained how cleaning during the heatwave need not lead to exhaustion - it just requires a different approach.'The good news is you don't need to tackle a full deep clean to keep your home feeling fresh, calm and comfortable in hot weather,' Lynsey, also known as the 'Queen of Clean', said.'Small maintenance jobs, done strategically, can make a huge difference, and without leaving you overheated and exhausted.'To help Britons tackle cleaning tasks in the balmy temperatures, Crombie has revealed the 11 steps she follows to clean smarter during a heatwave, including starting early before the heat builds.'The best time to clean is first thing in the morning while the house is still cool. Open windows early to let fresh air circulate before temperatures rise, and use this time to tackle any jobs that require more movement, like hoovering or changing beds.Once the afternoon heat arrives, even simple tasks can feel far more draining,' she added. It might sound like a no-brainer, but the expert added that, when cleaning, dress for the temperature. 'Queen of Clean' Lynsey Crombie (pictured) has revealed her top tips for cleaning during the heatwaveShe said: 'It sounds obvious, but what you wear while cleaning really matters during hot weather.'Lightweight, breathable clothing will help keep you comfortable and prevent you from overheating too quickly.'Avoid heavy fabrics and anything restrictive, cleaning in a heatwave is all about staying as cool as possible.'Clothes aside, staying hydrated when you clean is also of prime importance, Crombie said.'One of the biggest mistakes people make is powering through jobs without drinking enough water. Keep a cold bottle of water nearby and sip regularly while cleaning, even if you don't feel thirsty.'Heat and physical movement together can quickly leave you dehydrated without you realising.'When it comes to the actual cleaning, Crombie advises avoiding hot water and opting for cool or lukewarm water instead.'During a heatwave, there's no need to make the house even hotter by using boiling water everywhere.'For most everyday cleaning jobs, cool or lukewarm water works perfectly well. It also makes cleaning far more comfortable for you.'Other cleaning methods that use high heat are also worth skipping, according to Crombie, including the steam cleaner. She explained: 'Steam cleaners can be brilliant normally, but during very hot weather, they add unnecessary heat and humidity into the home.'The same goes for using lots of very hot water indoors. Instead, stick to lighter, quicker cleaning methods that freshen the house without making it feel stuffy.'The expert's next top tip was to keep air moving: 'If you have a fan, use it while cleaning to help circulate air and keep rooms feeling fresher. 'A heatwave is not the time for a huge deep clean. 'Instead, focus on smaller maintenance jobs that instantly make the home feel cleaner and calmer.'Think: Wiping kitchen sides, freshening bathrooms, emptying bins regularly, quick floor cleans, keeping laundry under control, and changing towels more often.'Next, the expert said to tackle one room at a time. 'Trying to rush around the entire house during a heatwave is exhausting. Instead, clean one room at a time and give yourself permission to stop between jobs.'A cold flannel, cooling facial mist, or even running cold water over your wrists can help cool you down quickly if you start feeling uncomfortable.'Small tricks like this can make cleaning in hot weather far more manageable.'Most importantly, don't push yourself too hard. If you start feeling dizzy, lightheaded or overly tired, stop cleaning immediately, cool down and rest. No spotless house is worth making yourself unwell over.'She concluded: 'During a heatwave, the goal isn't perfection, it's creating a home that feels fresh, calm and comfortable without exhausting yourself in the process.'
