Women are increasingly choosing cruise holidays in South Africa, with female travellers now accounting for more than 70% of local cruisers. From stress-free planning to safety, affordability and onboard entertainment, cruises are becoming a popular option for girls' getaways and multi-generational group trips.

South African cruise holidays are seeing a notable shift, with women now making up more than half of local passengers.

What was once a market largely dominated by families and couples has evolved into a popular choice for girls' getaways, with groups of 10, 20 and even 30 women travelling together. These groups often include colleagues, church members, and lifelong friends spanning several generations.

One of cruising's biggest attractions is its convenience. With accommodation, meals and entertainment included, travellers avoid the stress of planning daily activities, booking restaurants or preparing food. Buffet breakfasts, à la carte lunches, dinners and snacks are readily available throughout the voyage.

Safety is another key factor behind the trend. The self-contained environment of a cruise ship allows passengers to move around comfortably, whether taking an evening stroll on deck or enjoying an early morning coffee.
