Resigned Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball head coach Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin and some former players had contradicting testimonies on allegations of past near-drownings during training, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Friday flagged glaring contradictions between the testimonies of former Ateneo players and resigned head coach Tab Baldwin over allegations of prior near-drownings during training camp.

Baldwin submitted his statement to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) on June 19 as part of the probe into the fatal drownings of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a training session in Dipaculao, Aurora.

In a press briefing in Quezon City on Friday, Remulla said he had asked Baldwin if past near-drowning incidents had occurred and quoted an excerpt from his testimony, “Again, we’ve fielded that question before. There was no incident that even created the idea of drowning.”
