A car carrying ten irregular migrants overturned during a police chase in south-west Lithuania on Thursday evening after the driver refused to stop when signalled by officers.
Police spotted the Hyundai Santa Fe in the town of Pilviškiai in Vilkaviškis district and signalled the driver to pull over. The driver ignored the order and sped away. Officers deployed a spike strip near the village of Šeškiniai later that evening, at around 10.30pm, but the vehicle attempted to swerve around it and overturned after leaving the road.
The driver, a Moldovan citizen born in 1999, was injured and taken to hospital in Kaunas. The ten migrants found inside the vehicle, eight adults and two minors, were also taken to hospital.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched.
