Enlli's story Enlli, from Wales, had experienced 10 months of symptoms and multiple GP visits before she went to A&E, which eventually led to the discovery of a mass that turned out to be cancer. Treatment at Gwynedd Hospital in Bangor, an hour-round trip, included a full hysterectomy, surgical menopause, and chemotherapy. In addition, she faced a four-hour round trip to travel to Liverpool for fertility surgery as part of her treatment, extra travelling that made the fertility journey harder, leaving her physically exhausted on top of the emotional side of it. During this time, she had to pause her apprenticeship. She said: “I expected the cancer diagnosis since December, so I got my head around having cancer, it was devastating hearing it was in the womb and not being able to carry my own children.” She has been sharing her story nationally to help others facing similar challenges. Her Young Lives vs Cancer specialist social worker helped Enlli to access support with the impact on her mental health and wellbeing by speaking to a counsellor, who was referred by the cancer unit in Ysbyty Gwynedd. “My outlook has completely changed,” she said. “I am looking at life in a completely different way. I’m much more grateful for life and enjoying it instead of just concentrating on work and money. I’m surrounding myself with better people.” Ongoing support
