Across the country, the Canada Border Services Agency has opened 484 immigration investigations involving foreign nationals tied to extortion.
Canadian authorities say they’re investigating nearly 200 foreign nationals in connection with extortion incidents in the Toronto area.
As of June 18, officials have issued removal orders against 33 people with ties to these crimes on various inadmissibility grounds, with 17 of them having already been deported, the Canada Border Services Agency in a news release on Thursday. In Greater Toronto there have been 196 investigations opened.
