Shares in the utilities sector posted modest gains as U.S. economic indicators suggested the Fed may not need to be as hawkish as priced in by the market.

U.S. natural gas futures rose 4% in a three-session winning streak as forecasts showed warmer weather driving electricity-sector demand for gas. The EIA reported a 76 Bcf storage build for last week, practically in line with the five-year average but above the 70 Bcf estimate in a WSJ survey of analysts. The miss was seen as not too large but it can still offset the increasing demand, Gelber & Associates said in a note.
