The Forum of Progressive Speakers of State Legislators has hailed the passage of the State Police Bill as a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s security, pledging full support for its rollout while acknowledging lingering concerns over governors’ powers.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, by the Forum under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
PUNCH Online observed that the bill was passed yesterday, (Wednesday), at the Senate Plenary session amidst increasing kidnappings, banditry, and communal clashes across the country.
According to the statement, signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Hon. Haruna Dangyatim, Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, a copy of which was obtained by PUNCH correspondent described the Senate’s action as a historic turning point for Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
He said the Forum commendably received and praised the passage of the landmark State Police Bill into law by the Senate.
