In the 2000s, Perizaad Zorabian made quite a lot of people sit up and take notice with her lively performances such as Jogger’s Park, Bollywood Calling, Morning Raga etc. After a short but impactful career, she left showbiz to take care of her father’s poultry business.In a chat with Uncovered With Suketu Shah, Zorabian admitted entrepreneurship was always on the cards for her. “I was 8 and couldn’t even pronounce entrepreneur correctly, but I knew that’s what I wanted to be,” she said. After completing her early education in India, Perizaad moved to New York to pursue a Master of Business Administration. During her time there, she discovered the renowned Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute through a friend who was enrolled at the institution. Intrigued by the world of performance and storytelling, she chose to spend an additional year training in acting after earning her MBA. Her father wholeheartedly encouraged her aspirations and stood firmly behind her decisions.Despite gaining exposure to the performing arts and refining her creative skills, Perizaad eventually returned to India and joined the family business, working with Zorabian’s poultry enterprise. However, destiny had charted a very different course for her. At a family function, a modelling coordinator noticed her striking personality and natural charm, opening the door to an unexpected opportunity. Soon afterward, she secured her debut advertising assignment for the beauty brand Fair & Lovely.Her captivating presence in front of the camera quickly attracted attention within the entertainment industry. One project led to another, and opportunities began arriving at a rapid pace. Before long, she found herself stepping into the spotlight as the leading lady in Bollywood Calling, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.Zorabian established a place for herself in the industry with films such as Jogger’s Park, Morning Raga etc. She also worked in more commercial films such as Ek Ajnabee opposite Amitabh Bachchan. After marriage to construction tycoon Boman Rustom Irani in 2006, Perizaad left showbiz and focused on her poultry business. She expanded her father’s company into an empire which also includes retail, ready-to-cook food. Zorabian Chicken operates across 15 states in India. It employs 700 people and has an annual turnover of Rs 120 crore.
