The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has officially handed over the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, to a private consortium, Aero Alliance Limited, under a public-private partnership arrangement aimed at rehabilitating, expanding, and managing the facility.
The handover, which took place on Thursday at the airport's international terminal, marks the formal transfer of operational control of the airport to the concessionaire, which is expected to finance and oversee its modernisation.
Under the agreement, Aero Alliance Limited will be responsible for the financing, rehabilitation, expansion, operation and management of the airport, with the goal of transforming it into a major aviation and logistics hub in West Africa.
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), credited President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for driving the concession process to a successful conclusion.
