OTTAWA—Prime Minister Mark Carney says he had a “long discussion” with U.S. President Donald Trump about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the American-Israeli war with Iran, as Canada is pushing to showcase its military rearmament drive and plans to bolster its presence in the Arctic.
The call came amid uncertainty over the future of Canada’s continental trade deal with the United States and Mexico, and ahead of a NATO summit in Turkey that follows criticism from Trump about how much allies are spending on defence and their willingness to get involved in the conflict that choked off oil supplies and rocked the Middle East in recent months.
