Lionsgate has picked up the foreign TV rights to the Spanish-language feature film Belleza, which stars Mexican singer and actress Maite Perroni.
The deal for the overseas cable and streaming rights to Belleza beyond the U.S. market was done with Paul Presburger’s Miercoles Entertainment, which has a film slate deal with Lionsgate and is a part of the consortium behind the Hollywood studio’s longstanding Pantelion and Pantaya ventures.
“Lionsgate is a longstanding, exceptional partner with global distribution prowess and bespoke relationships across the television landscape. We’re thrilled to continue that relationship with Miercoles and to launch our slate with Belleza, a film with a powerful local voice and an outstanding cast led by Maite Perroni,” Presburger said in a statement.
Presburger and Lionsgate are behind Pantelion Films, the former Lionsgate/Televisa joint venture focused on Spanish-language films, the streaming platform Pantaya, and the global IP consortium Globalgate. Belleza, a female-driven multigenerational drama and comedy, is produced by BH5 Studios and Miercoles as a co-production with Secuoya Studios.
Perroni had a breakout role in the 2004 Mexican telenovela Rebelde, which was followed by the launch of her rock group RBD and streaming TV series roles in Netflix’s Dark Desire and Triada (Triptych). Belleza also stars Fernanda Castillo, Claudette Maille, Diego Klein, Arap Bethke, Antonia Giraldo, Johanna Murillo, Sabina Furuzawa, Sebastian García Huerta, Monica Dionne and Arturo Ríos.
